Meta-owned Instagram revealed the launch of a new video editing app, named Edits, on Sunday. The announcement follows the temporary removal of ByteDance’s CapCut app from the Apple App Store and Google Play Store, due to the ongoing TikTok ban. While CapCut services resumed on Sunday afternoon, Instagram’s new offering aims to fill the void for mobile video creators.
Adam Mosseri, Instagram’s head, shared the update on Threads, noting that Edits will initially be available for iOS devices next month, with an Android version to follow. “Today we’re announcing a new app called ‘Edits,’ for those of you who are passionate about making videos on your phone,” he wrote, highlighting Instagram’s commitment to supporting creators even amidst challenges in the video editing space.
