The Future of Smartphone Cameras: Largan’s Tetraprism Telephoto Lens Technology and Its Impact on Apple and HUAWEI
The latest predictions from Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo point to a significant shift in the smartphone camera market in 2024. According to Kuo, the iPhone 16 Pro is set to feature Appleās tetraprism 120 mm camera, driving demand for the technology and positioning Largan as a key player in the industry.
Kuo highlights that Largan’s exclusive supply of the tetraprism (periscope) camera lens for the iPhone 15 Pro Max has been a game-changer. Despite initial production challenges, improvements in yield have made the tetraprism lens assembly profitable and are expected to significantly boost Largan’s EPS in 4Q23.
Looking ahead to 2024, Kuo anticipates that Apple will expand the use of the new camera technology to its smaller pro models, resulting in a substantial increase in iPhones with the tetraprism lens. Additionally, he points to Apple and HUAWEI as the two fastest-growing brands in global periscope camera smartphone shipments for 2024.
Largan is projected to be the primary supplier of periscope lenses for both Apple and HUAWEI, with improved yields contributing to increased profitability and a substantial increase in total periscope orders for 2024.
Kuo also notes that HUAWEI’s upcoming P70 series, powered by its own Kirin chips, is expected to see a significant growth in shipment numbers compared to the P60 series in 2023, further highlighting the impact of Largan’s technology on the smartphone market.
