APPLE IPHONE 12 ISSUE
According to a report by Reuters, Apple has announced that it will be updating the software on iPhone 12 devices in France to address concerns regarding radiation. This move comes after Belgium and other European countries expressed interest in investigating potential health risks associated with the iPhone 12, and France had already halted sales of the model due to violations of radiation exposure limits.
Apple’s software update is aimed at addressing the regulatory suspension and aligning with French regulatory protocols. The French government has welcomed this move and expressed confidence that it will allow sales of the iPhone 12 to resume. Apple has clarified that the update is not due to safety concerns but rather to comply with French regulations. The company has reiterated that the iPhone meets global standards as certified by multiple international bodies.
The French regulator, Agence Nationale des Frequences (ANFR), plans to test the software update promptly to ensure it aligns with European standards. Once the update is approved, the sales suspension in France is expected to be lifted.
ANFR had identified a higher Specific Absorption Rate (SAR) for the iPhone 12, which measures the amount of radiofrequency energy absorbed by the body. However, experts have stated that this does not pose safety risks as the regulatory limits are set well below levels where harm has been proven.
IPHONE 12 SOFTWARE UPDATE
Ben Wood, chief analyst at CCS Insight, believes that this incident will likely be forgotten quickly, especially since the iPhone 12 is an older model. He also mentioned that a potential recall would have been a more significant issue if Apple had not taken the initiative to release a software update.
In unrelated news, Apple recently unveiled the iPhone 15 series and achieved European revenues of over $95 billion last year, making it its second-largest market after the U.S. However, specific sales data for individual countries and models are not disclosed by Apple.
