Android 15 Developer Preview
Google is on the brink of unveiling the highly anticipated first Developer Preview of Android 15, as reported by a recent update from 9to5Google.
According to a comment made by a Google developer on the Android Open Source Project, the initial preview of Android 15 is scheduled for release on Thursday, February 15, 2024. Referred to internally as “Vanilla Ice Cream,” the developer hinted at the preview being dubbed “Android V.”
This preview launch follows closely on the heels of the recent Android 14 QPR3 Beta 1 release, which teased the upcoming Android 15 with its Easter Egg Update featuring the Android 14 logo enclosed in a triangle.
In contrast to last year’s timeline, the Android 15 preview is arriving slightly later, with last year’s preview dropping on February 8, 2023. As per tradition, only Pixel devices are expected to be eligible for the Android 15 Developer Preview.
For users enrolled in beta updates, it is likely that they will continue to remain on Android 14 for now, as Developer Preview releases are typically less stable and not intended for public consumption.
The debut of the first Android 15 Developer Preview promises to offer a sneak peek into Google’s upcoming release. Speculation suggests that the inclusion of a “Private Space” feature, enabling users to hide and lock specific apps, may be on the horizon, as hinted in the Android 14 QPR2 Beta 2 update.
Stay tuned for more insights into the next Android OS as Google rolls out the first Android 15 Developer Preview update tomorrow.
