YouTube Introduces New Features to Enhance News Content and Support Journalists
YouTube is rolling out new features to improve the way users interact with news content and support journalists. The platform is introducing an immersive news watch page that aggregates content from credible sources, including video on demand, live streams, podcasts, and Shorts. This allows viewers to explore different perspectives on a news topic in one place, with access to long-form videos, live coverage, and Shorts. To access the watch page for a specific news topic, users can click on a video with a newspaper icon on the homepage or search results.
Additionally, YouTube is launching the Shorts Innovation Program for News, which aims to enhance news organizations’ short-form video capabilities. The program offers financial grants and expert support to over 20 organizations across 10 countries, with a total grant of $1.6 million USD. Selected organizations, such as Univision in the U.S., AFP in France, and Mediacorp in Singapore, will collaborate with YouTube specialists to develop short-form news content strategies and video production best practices.
The News Watch Page is initially available for mobile users in around 40 countries and will expand to desktop and living room platforms in the future. YouTube’s goal is to connect viewers with reliable and meaningful news content while assisting news publishers in exploring new video news formats.
