WhatsApp Unlimited Google Drive Backup is Ending in 2024 for Android Users

WhatsApp Unlimited Google Drive Backup

In 2015, WhatsApp introduced the option for Android users to back up their entire WhatsApp history to Google Drive. However, recent reports have revealed that the unlimited storage option will soon be coming to an end.

WhatsApp and Google have officially announced that the unlimited Google Drive backup will be discontinued, leaving users with only 15GB of storage shared across Google Drive, Gmail, and Google Photos to back up their WhatsApp content.

According to Google, WhatsApp backups on Android will still be functional as long as there is available space within the user’s Google Account storage. If the storage limit is reached, users will need to free up space by removing unnecessary items in order to resume backups.

It has been confirmed that this change will not affect users with a Google Workspace subscription through work or school. In response to this development, WhatsApp has introduced an easy chat transfer option for users with limited Google Drive storage.

The new backup options will first be available to WhatsApp Beta users in December 2023, with a gradual rollout to all WhatsApp users on Android beginning in early 2024.
